You know what really grinds my gears…
When people tell me to stop complaining about not having a horse, not being able to ride, or any derivative of the two, AND THEN have the audacity to tell me their wonderful story about how they didn’t have a lot of money but they took a horse from nothing and made it something and I should do the same. Here is what I have to say to you:
CONGRATU-FUCKING-LATIONS.
I don’t want to hear your story, number one, because I could really give a fuck about it. Number two, you obviously had enough money to BUY a horse, AND BOARD it, AND pay for lessons, and training, and everything else. So, no, you are not in my situation and you never have been.
Let’s see why I complain, shall we?
One: I do not have the time to ride for hours and hours every day of the week because unlike you, insensitive high school child, I have a JOB and I work 8+ hours a day, 5 days a week. So, I don’t think I have the time to train a horse myself from scratch.
Two: Board where I live is $1500+ A MONTH. Plus vet fees, and farrier fees, and trailering, oh and BUYING THE DAMN THING IN THE FIRST PLACE. Even if it’s a $1500 horse, it ends up costing an arm and a leg anyway. So, I don’t think I can afford to buy and keep a horse. You’re so lucky you can.
Three: Where I live, we have the highest property taxes in theNATION. We have ridiculous school taxes (to the tune of 15k PER YEAR). We pay city taxes, state taxes, federal taxes, and commuter taxes. Because of all this bullshit, my mother can no longer afford to send me to college. Don’t even start on me about financial aid because I receive NONE. Not one fucking penny. Because my mother makes $150k+ a year (she keeps close to none of it, mind you) and the federal government says she makes too much for me to receive any aid. I really don’t think that my mother can afford to get me a horse if she can’t even send me to school anymore. Literally, you do not know how embarrassing it is to say to people “Oh, my mom can’t afford to send me to college anymore.” I’m so glad that you get to go to college and ride for their team, but really kid, you need to fucking realize that you have it a fuck-ton better than a lot of people out there.
So really, the next time someone pulls this shit on me, you can go soak your head, because I don’t want to hear it. Pull your head out of your privileged ass and realize that not everyone has it as great as you do. That some people work ten times harder and still don’t reap any rewards. Really, I’m so happy that you can all prance around on your ponies, but I swear if one more person says something like that to me, I will actually have to murder them.
